Sustainability, digitalization, automation, electrification – IAA première for the Krone eTrailer

At the IAA Transportation 2022 in Hanover, Krone’s exhibit follows the slogan: “Mission Beyond Zero”. In general, during transport, trailers do not actively consume any fossil fuels nor emit any CO2. But Krone is now going one step further with its “Mission Beyond Zero”, helping active fuel consumers improve their carbon footprint by using Krone eTrailer technology to take the strain off the tractor unit and thus reduce the semi-trailer's CO2 emissions.

The sustainable Krone concept is not a vision, but a “mission”. That's because the Krone eTrailer is not a dream of the future, but has already been tried and tested in practice. Krone’s overall concept of “Mission Beyond Zero” at the IAA Transportation fires the starting shot for a new generation of trailer transport solutions that combine digitalization, automation, sustainability and electrification, to significantly reduce the CO2 emissions of semitrailers.

Thanks to the Krone eTrailer, diesel consumption and CO2 emissions of the semitrailer tractor unit are reduced by 20 to 40 percent. A powerful eAxis lies at the heart of the innovative technology. It assists the semitrailer tractor in driving and also recovers braking energy through recuperation. The Krone eTrailer provides enough energy for long distances of over 500 km and can be combined with any conventional tractor unit, so that CO2 reduction can be implemented directly in the fleet.

Digitalization and automation also contribute to reducing consumption and CO2 emissions.

In the digitalization megatrend, the “Krone Intelligent Transport Solutions” (KITS) with new technologies take centre stage. One example is the Krone Smart Capacity Management loading space recognition system, which works with artificial intelligence and allows the dispatcher to track occupancy and loading in the trailer in real time.

Krone is breaking new ground in trailer automation with the Box Liner eLTU 50 Automatic: The driver can adjust the container chassis to the respective container, at the mere push of a button from the HGV cab.

In addition to exciting innovations, IAA visitors can look forward to the Krone Denkfabrik, which features something different every hour – start-up pitches, the Tech-Talk and the Politics Talk with prominent participants such as VDA President Hildegard Müller, BGL Board Spokesman Prof. Dirk Engelhardt, DSLV President Axel Plaß or Bernard Krone, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Krone Holding.
